Jacquard weaving was initially done using the Jacquard machine, which used all sorts of fibres and blends of fibres used in the manufacture of jacquard rugs. Jacquard weaving is a unique type of weave that can be used to create a brocade or metalesse pattern. These patterns are in high demand due to their versatile designs and unique colour combinations. The fabric pattern was originally kept on punched cards, linked together to form a continuous chain on mechanical Jacquard machines.
The Jacquard machines were traditionally small and independently controlled, few warps ends. This process required numerous repeats across the loom width. Eventually, with larger capacity machines or multiple machines, greater control with fewer repeats could be achieved, and hence, larger prints could be made across the rugs.
